Ode to a Stone.

Yielding to the pressure of your footsteps,
look down and behold
the artefacts of Aotearoa’s geological narrative.
Fragmented, amassed, tumbled and strewn by the tide,
We are millions-strong.
Wonder at our smoothed form
and choose.

Hold me,
our energies meet.
My sculpted profile in the palm of your hand.
I am the object of natural beauty,
that must endure without possession.
For this is my home.
