I have designed a furniture piece heavily influenced by the design art movement which focuses on mixing art mediums and design. The design style of the ‘design art movement’ that influenced my project is the post world war 2 mid-century modern movement from the 1940’s-1970’s. This clear link to mid-century design is reflected through the mixing of materials (oak and tiles), the colour pallet, the rounded edges, the angular form of the legs and the underneath structure. The ‘art’ factor has been utilised to reflect mid-century design references through the use of hand made clay tiles. Each tile has been handcrafted from New Zealand stoneware clay.
