Leading Lights is a reinterpretation of archival documentation to virtually imitate the workings and experiences of the lighthouses at Pencarrow, Baring head and Puysegur point. This immersive experience represents the laborious existence of lighthouse keeper’s in Aotearoa 1860-1942, reframing these archival texts within an interactive virtual reality exhibition. Virtual Reality experiences utilise historical accounts of human inhabitation to reconnect participants to these disengaged, historic structures.
