As a textile collection of surface pattern fabrics, ‘What’s Inside?’ was created to visually communicate our interaction with the handbag and how this relationship has evolved over the years.
Each fabric demonstrates a snapshot in time by showing images of what might typically be found inside the everyday handbag. Ranging from the dainty handkerchief carrier of the 1820s to the humble tote bag of the 2020s, the fabrics act as a visual diary of past and present society.
